Topic: How do I edit ship specs in SFC1?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but how do you edit the ship specs in SFC1.  I have recently brought this and playing it until the patch comes out for SFC3.  I have tried downloading the 'modding 101' tutorial from strategy planet but it is a dead link.

The specfile is in the Assets folder. Unlike SFCII there is only one specfile to be concerned with. You can edit it with either excell or with word pad. Word pad comes with your computer excel does not.  The specfile has column headers that explain what each is but not necessarily what values can be put in there. If you cannot find the tutorial then just experiment with the different columns but first save a copy of the original file so you can undue any program crashing mistakes. The tutorial I printed off when SFC I first came out was nearly half an inch thichk and had value ranges for each column and tables of firing arcs for each abrieviation. It is worth it to try to find a working link.

I prefer to use excel to edit SFC I and II files but the program does not work for SFC III.  In excel you cannot muck up the alignment of the various specs as is a very real possibility with a plain text editor like word pad. If you use word pad just be careful not to add aextra spaces or delete or add any punctuation.

There is also a shipedit program for SFC1.  Good program.  Version 2 is for SFC1, and higher versions for other SFC games.  I think cleeve was keeping shipedit 2 on www.styaryards.com, but because he is such a popular guy, his bandwidth was used up, and he's looking for a new server.
